HEI-SAMI - Sami language in higher Education in suburban areas project concentrates on promoting Nordic network building of universities working with endangered Sami language education. 

Purpose of the project

The project concentrates on promoting Nordic network building of universities working with endangered Sami language education. The project goal is to build a network and collaboration between Nordic higher education institutions teaching endangered North Sami language in suburban areas outside the traditional Sami regions. The project aims to identify and solve key challenges concerning Sami language education through institutional visits, workshops and practical collaboration.

Project activities

The project will organise four workshops for students and teachers, each in a different participant institution. The purpose of the workshops is to promote network building of universities working with Sami language education for their students in suburban areas. The project will also develop materials such as handbook for teaching and as piloting production of digital materials and solutions. 

Project management

The project is funded by Nordplus Nordic languages programme. The project period is 8/2023-8/2025. The project is part of the activities of UArctic Thematic Network Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity.
